Deccan Chargers, bottom team of last year won the 2009 DLF Indian Premier League - IPL2, by 6 wickets beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in a thrilling final on Sunday, 24th May, 2009 at Johannesburg. DC made 143/6 and restricted RCB to 137/9 in 20 overs.


Deccan Chargers got a worst start as dangerous Adam Gilchrist out on duck by Kumble who bowled an excellent 1st over and pushed Deccan on back foot but Herschell Gibbs who scored 53 runs off 48 balls added 40 runs with Andrew Symonds (33 runs) and then 52 runs with Rohit Sharma (24 runs) to take Deccan a respectable total of 143/6 in 20 overs. Kumble bowled brilliantly with 4 wickets for just 16 runs in 4 overs.



In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore got a slow start but Roelf van der Maerwe hit 21 balls 32 runs to take them 57/2 in 8 overs but 2 big wickets in successive ball by Symonds who got dangerous Ross Taylor (27 runs off 20 balls) and Virat Kohli in the 14th over to brought back Deccan in the match and restricted Bangalore to 137/9 in 20 overs.

Bangalore needed 14 runs in the last over but RP Singh kept his nerve cool to win the match and the title for Deccan who is also won Purple Cap with 23 wickets.

Royal Challengers Bangalore - 137/9 in 20 overs.

In the 2nd semi final of 2009 IPL, rejuvenated Royal Challengers Bangalore beat last year runner-up and title favorite Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets with 7 balls remaining to reach the final of IPL2 on Saturday, 23rd May, 2009 at Johannesburg. CSK made 146/5 in 20 overs and RCB made 149/4 in 18.5 overs.

Chennai Super Kings started well reached 61 runs in 7 overs due to fine hitting by Parthiv Patel and Mathew Hayden score 36 runs and 26 runs respectively but tight bowling supported by well fielding restricted them to 14 /5 in 20 overs. Dhoni also contributed 28 runs. Vinay Kumar took 2 wickets for Bangalore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore lost Kallis early in the inning but last match Hero Manish Pandey once again played a match winning inning of 48 runs off 35 balls and put 72 runs for the 3rd wicket with Dravid who contributed 44 runs to set a platform for a comfortable win. Virat Kohli and Ross Taylor were unbeaten on 24 and 17 runs respectively.

DD scored 153/8 in 20 overs and DC made 154/4 in 17.4 overs.

Delhi Daredevils invited to bat 1st got its worst start of IPL as the Gambhir and Warner out on duck and they were 2 wickets down and then Sehwag and Dilshan put partnership of 85 runs in 10 overs, scored 39 runs and 65 runs off 51 balls respectively to take Delhi to 153/8 in 20 overs. Ryan Harris took 3 wickets while RP Singh took 2 wickets for Deccan.
