Delhi Dare Devils beat Rajasthan Royals by 9 wickets in a one sided match at Firoz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi on Saturday, 19th April 2008.

They lost the toss but bowled clinically to keep Rajasthan to 129 before a 112-run stand between Gambhir and Dhawan, scored unbeaten 58 and 51 respectively.

IPL, BLR vs KOL - McCullum hit 158 in Riders win


Kolkata Knight Rider's Brendon McCullum smashed a fiery unbeaten 158 in just 73 balls, the highest score in a Twenty20 match, in the opening match of the inaugural Indian Premier League tournament against Bangalore Royal Challengers.

McCullum hit 10 fours and 13 sixes in his record inning helped Shah Rukh Khan's team to post 222/3 in 20 overs. Bangalore team was in no condition to fight back after that battering, and collapsed limply to 82 to lose by an embarrassing margin of 140 runs, the fourth-largest defeat in 20-20 match.

Bangalore vs Kolkata - Opening match of IPL on Fri, 18th April


The much awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to start from tomorrow, Friday 18th April, 2008. Opening ceremony will be held on Friday to launch the inaugural edition of the Twenty20 tournament.

The organisers are planning to switch off the floodlights at the Chinnaswamy Stadium before the first match between Dravid's Bangalore Royal Challengers and Ganguly's Kolkata Knight Riders. Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly will face each other as captain.

Bangalore is also banking on 12 cheerleaders from the Washington Redksins, the 'First Ladies of American Football', to draw more fans to the stadium.

Bangalore Royal Challengers, which is owned by Vijay Mallya, the business tycoon, is playing a key role in organising the opening ceremony on their home ground in association with the Karnataka State Cricket Association and the IPL.

IPL : Indian Premier League TV rights


India's Sony Entertainment, a division of Japan’s Sony Corp, and the Singapore-based World Sports Group (WSG) won the global broadcasting rights of the Indian Premier League rights.

The rights have given for the whopping US$1,026 million for the duration of ten (10) years. As part of the deal, the consortium will pay the BCCI US$918 million for the telecast rights and US$108 million for the promotion of the tournament.

In Australia, Network Ten has bought the rights to show every game live in Australia on free-to-air television for the next five years at a cost of AU $10 - $15 million.

In UK, Setanta Sports have secured the UK rights in a 5-year deal. All 59 games will be shown on their subscription channels.

Dubai-based Arab Digital Distribution bought the rights to broadcast the IPL in the Middle East by securing a 10 year deal. Games will be broadcasted on ADD's ART Prime Sport, and will be available to viewers in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan and Libya. Terms of the deal were not released.
