Punjab knocked out of IPL2 - Chennai won by 24 runs to finish 2nd in IPL2 standings
Kings XI Punjab lost a very easy chance to qualify for the semi-finals as they bowled out to 92 runs in the chase of 116 runs in 20 overs and lost by 24 runs against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, 20th May, 2009 at Durban. CSK scored 116/9 in 20 overs and KXIP made 92/8 in 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings without their star Mathew Hayden started well by Patel and Bailey put 40 runs in 5 overs but wickets at regular wickets restricted them to 116/9 in 20 overs thanks to good and tight bowling by Sreesanth and Brett Lee.
Kings XI Punjab got a cautious start for a low target and they slumped under pressure on a difficult to bat pitch as only 2 batsmen crossed double digit with 26 runs was highest score by Pomersbach due to tight bowling by spinners Muralitharan, Raina and Ashwin, given only 38 runs in 12 overs.
